The Rappahannock Board of Supervisors are responsible for determining members to the newly created Board of Building Appeals. The new board, required by state law, will serve as an appeals body for property owners whose buildings have failed inspection.
On Monday the supervisors selected William L. Anderson of Amissville, Fanning Baumgardner of Washington, Jon Morgan of Woodville, and G.N. Williams of Chester Gap. All are building contractors. The supervisors still need another member to serve on the board.
In another matter, the supervisors will ask Commonwealth’s Attorney Peter Luke to file a petition with the circuit court for a special election to elect a new commissioner of revenue. The election will be held next November. Merle Scoggin resigned on November 14, 1985 and the office is currently being managed by Deputy Commissioner Beverly Atkins.
The supervisors have also approved Zoning Assistant Sandra Brown to substitute for acting Zoning Administrator Emiel Smet who is temporarily out of office due to an emergency.
Members of the board also heard discussion about an insurance premium still owed to an insurance firm. Although $4,107 had already been authorized to the company, the latest figure has jumped to $8044.92. Board member Pete Estes said that he wants investigation into the matter before any further monies be approved. An insurance consultant hired by the county will be asked questions pertaining to the amount on later in the week.
