In 1986 the Rappahannock-Rapidan Community Services Center begins its second year of public transportation in Rappahannock County. Subsidized in part by mon- - - ies from the Urban Mass Transit Administration, the Center offers a limited number of seats on its Rappahannock-Fauquier route for a minimal fare.
Leaving Sperryville at 6:30 a.m. every Monday through Friday, the Center’s 14-passenger van arrives at Washington by 7:00 a.m. and continues on into downtown Warrenton, arriving by 7:30 a.m. In' the afternoon, it reverses this route, leaving Warrenton by 5:00 p.m., arriving in Washington at 5:30 p.m. and continuing to Sperryville, arriving at 6:00 p.m.
The round-trip fare is $2.00/day, although, for regular riders, a frequent-user ticket booklet is available. This reduces the cost to halfprice.
Half Marathon
Registration is now open for the 8th Annual Anheuser-Busch Colonial Half Marathon, scheduled Sim- ' day, February 23, 1986, in Williamsburg.
About 1,500 runners are expected to compete in the 13.1 mile race, which benefits the athletic department of William and Mary College. Prizes will be awarded to the top male and female finishers as well as winners in nine age categories.
Entry forms may be requested by writing to Jim Johnson, P.O. Drawer U, Williamsburg, VA 23187 or by calling 804/253-3831. Forms are also available at selected area running and sporting goods stores. The registration fee is $8 until February 12 and $10 after that date.
The course begins on the college campus, then loops outside Williamsburg along the scenic James River via Colonial Parkway. Runners will return through residential Williamsburg to the college campus, where the finish line and awards ceremony will be inside William and Mary Hall.
The half-marathon is sponsored annually by Anheuser-Busch, Inc. Last year, the event drew 1,200 competition and raised $7,000 for William and Mary College track scholarships.
