Rappahannock New* Staff Writer j Flint Hill’s Kathleen Maier is a Physician’s Assistant, herbalist and natural health care practitioner. And that’s not all. She worked with the Peace Corps in Chile for a couple of years and, on returning to the United States, helped set up the FLOC (For Love of Children) Wilderness School for girls in Strasburg. She graduated on the Dean’s list from Hahnemann Medical College in 1985.
It was her experience in Chile that led to her current interest in herbology. Her own background had been more traditionally oriented (she holds a BS in chemistry from the University of Scranton), so the exposure to herbs was new.
“The whole time I was in Chile, I was always treated with herbs — no pills,” Kathleen said. “I realized their medicine was of value to me.”
