“By the end of the year I sincerely hope that my students can write a coherent paragraph. It’s hard for them because I’m making them rewrite. We give the children a chance to edit. They have self editing, peer editing, revision, teacher revision, and if they want parent revision, that’s fine. By the time they turn in a piece of work they have become very familiar with it. They have become familiar with their own failings that they need to improve on. So it’s very individualized and it’s also teaching “stick-to-itivensess.” The finished product is so much better than that first draft,” Mrs. Katz explained.
