The American Cancer Society is sponsoring a public breast cancer forum for women, and men, presenting methods of early diagnosis, treatment alternatives, reconstructive surgery, coping and rehabilitation. The forum will be held on February 22, from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Lee-Jackson Motor Inn in Winchester. Physicians who are outstanding in their specialties, and other trained people, will participate.
After a welcoming talk by Ellen Yoder, RNET, Glenn L. Tenneson, MD, from the department of radiation oncology of Fairfax Hospital, will speak on mammography as a diagnostic tool. Dr. Tenneson will also speak on the role of radiation therapy. George A. Knaysi, MD, from the Richmond Surgical Group, Inc., will speak on surgical treatment. Gerald Goldstein, MD, from the University of Virginia Hospital, will speak on the role of chemotherapy; and I. Kelman Cohen, MD, from the Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery of the Medical College of Virginia, will speak on rehabilitation through reconstructive surgery.
After a question and answer session moderated by Michael F. Nigro, MD, surgical oncologist from Alexandria, lunch will be served. Fashions will be modeled by models from the Reach to Recovery Program, which is a rehabilitation program for women who have had breast cancer.
