Along with generally deploring the costs of the farm program implemented by Joseph, there would also have been reports of inquiries by investigative reporters, probably followed by “Sixty Minutes” segments showing that some of the granaries were leaking. Undoubtedly rodent hairs would have been found, along with some droppings, perhaps in the bins. Maybe even some pigeon feathers.
It would have been discovered that some grain had been stolen, and undoubtedly over the seven year period, some that had become moldy, and would have been thrown away.
The criticism might well have stopped the collecting and storing of grain by the end of the fifth year, setting the stage for at least. two years of serious food shortages before the seven lean years ended — not only in Egypt, but in other countries as well, such as Canaan, adjacent to Egypt.
If the grain had not been stored, and the famine years had come on, the same papers would have blamed Joseph, denounced him, for lack of foresight.
Snow removal
To the editor:
Words of appreciation for the winter clean-up work of Doug Bywaters and his crews are long overdue. It is very noticeable that Rappahannock roads are cleared long before those in nearby counties.
It is a comforting feeling to be awakened in the night to the steady roar of snow plows, knowing that the highway crews are out there for our benefit.
Our thanks to Mr. Bywaters and his loyal helpers, we truly are grateful.
