“I met a large number of parents at the parent teacher conference. I was very pleased with everyone of them. Parents here seem to place a very high value on education. Their children are just that much further ahead because of it. It shows. They are working hard. I, am thrilled to see parents like that. It certainly helps the teacher’s job.” '

Mrs. Katz expressed her feelings about this area. “Suffolk is similar in many ways to Rappahannock County. It is predominately farm country, very open. The people are very warm and friendly just as they are here. That’s why I was so excited when I had the opportunity to apply here to work because I love the area. I feel right at home.

“I’ve lived in Luray for two years. When my husband and I would take outings with our children we would come to the mountains and spend the day in the Shenandoah Valley and on Skyline Drive. We decided then that when he retired we wanted to buy land here. We got our wish!

After touring the school with Mrs. Katz for the first time Mrs. Piper commented, “It was so easy for her to meet people and she was so friendly and outgoing, I felt she was quite comfortable with the staff. It was like she had been teaching here (or years.”

Sabbatical leave

“It can be granted to members of the staff, who are not teachers, , for studies at a college or university,” said Mrs. Piper.

Mrs. Piper concluded, “Basically, a sabbatical leave is one that is provided so that a staff member can do further study.”
