A time to give In recent months the American Red Cross has been pleading for people to donate blood. The supply has reached all time lows. A mis-guided fear that donors might somehow contract AIDS has slowed the rate of donations in recent months. No one can get this disease by giving blood. The needles are sterile. The lack of response has led to a near-crisis situation in many hospitals. The Fauquier Chapter of the American Red Cross, which includes Rappahannock County, has in the past set up bloodmobiles here. The response has been less than favorable. Last September the bloodmobile arrived in the county with a goal of 45 pints. 13 pints were collected. The chapter estabishes a bloodmobile in Fauquier County more often that it does here. On March 14 a bloodmobile will be set up at the Vint Hill Military Base. On the 27th of March the Red Cross will be at the fire station in Warrenton. This may seem like a long way to drive, but it is about the same distance many of us travel to buy groceries. Donating blood gives others life. The drive, the effort, seem worth it.
