In General District Court this week, Judge William Carson found Cary Lee Deffenbaugh of improper driving. The incident occured on January 11 on Route 522 when Mr. Deffenbaugh’s 1973 Ford sedan hit a 1982 Buick. The driver of the Buick was apparently slowing down to avoid a postal car; Mr. Deffenbaugh, who was behind the Buick, accelerated his vehicle with the intention of passing it. He said that he did not see the postal car ahead of the Buick. When he tried to pass the Buick, he hit the car twice. Damages to his car were, according to Trooper Rufus Baines, about $200 while dam age to the Buick was $800. Mr. Deffenbaugh was fined $50 plus court costs. He has originally been charged with improper passing.
