A few years prior to 1940 a committee gathered to publish a new book. “That was such a blue ribbon commission,” says Mr. Hobson, “they overdid it a bit.” He says that the 1940 hymnal, which has been used until this point, had “ornate music much of which was not singable.” That hymnal was not published in different editions, however.
The 1982 Hymnal has been designed more for the congregation, explains Mr. Hobson. The panel that chose selections for the latest hymnal sent two questionnaires to Trinity Episcopal Church to determine the hymns that were used. Questions were also asked about the frequency of a hymn’s usage.
