Acceding to a report received ^ by zoning administrator John Me* : Carthy on Jan. 30, preliminary soil boring were made at the Lee property
off the Fodderstack Road near the Town of Washington and the Saltonstall tract off Route 622 at the foot of Aaron Mountain.
“Based upon the population of Rappahannock County and the amount of solid waste generated per year for a landfill site, we have estimated
the life expectancy of Site 1 (Lee) and Site 2 (Saltonstall) to be 1.5 and 3.3 years respectively,” the report states. “We consider a suitable sanitary landfill site economically feasible when used for a minimum of
ten years. Therefore, we do not recommend Sites 1 and 2 as usable.”
