According to a spokeswoman for the Division of Solid Waste Management, the state would consider the possibility of allowing a further expansion at the Clark site. But neighboring landowners have put the Board of Supervisors on notice that they will mount a legal challenge to use of the Clark dump past the July 1 deadline.
Mr. Gilkey said that the board does not plan to petition the state on Friday for another expansion of the Clark landfill. “But hopefully, they’ll consider that,” he said.
Efforts made over the past two years to find a disposal site outside the county have been fruitless. Reportedly, Culpeper, Madison, Warren,
Fauquier, Frederick, Shenandoah and other localities have all said no to Rappahannock’s request to use their landfills - even on a temporary basis.
