Given all of this, it appears to me that citizens are going to have to gird up their loins and prepare to weather out the inevitable. The history of deer populations in the U.S. indicates a dismal failure in population control, even in federally controlled lands without the conflicts Virginia has. Without any, or little, management the deer population is due to spike, then crash, and given the present circumstances there is very little anyone is going to do about it. Creation of this economic disaster is tragic and unnecessary.
The state needs some sweeping -reforms before we, or the deer, will escape the course we're now on.
