Carl Hofer, who lives in McLean but also owns property outside Sperryville, probably wonders if the Postal Service is running his mail by private courier directly to Rappahannock County. ' . ,

Mr. Hofer said that he mailed a check for his county property taxes on Dec.,1. Rappahannock County Treasurer Frances Foster stamped the bill “Paid” on Dec. 2, and Mr. Hofer received the verification by return mail on Dec. 3.

This is the second year in a row that Mr. Hofer has received such Bpeedy delivery from the treasurer’s office and the Postal Service.

Mr. Hofer also posed a question for Rappahannock News readers: How many Social Security beneficiaries are over the age of 100? The answer, says the retired Social Security Administration employee, is 20,600.

The distribution by sex? Men account for 4,800 of the number - the rest are women.
