To the editor:
A deer population explosion in the state, of Virginia and Rappahannock County in particular seems imminent in spite of our “best efforts.” Why?
1) A casual haphazard approach and attitude by a game commission seeking public hearings and community officials’ opinions in lieu of a concrete management program led by professional deer management biologists with active authority.
2) Federal/state/private land conflicts.
3) Preservationist/federal judge injunction syndrome (such as the Remount Station incident some years ago).
4) Conflicts of personal interests as evidenced by landowners suffering deer damage on ported land!
