• Noticeable change of appetite, usually including significant weight gain or loss.

• Noticeable change in sleeping pattern: restless sleep, inability to sleep or too much sleep.

• Loss of interest in activities previously eigoyed.

• Loss of energy and feelings of fatigue.

• Feelings of worthlessness or inappropriate guilt.

• Inability to concentrate, think or make decisions.

• Recurring thoughts of death or suicide, and particularly wishing to or attempting suicide.

Experts estimate that between 80 and 90 percent of all depressed people can be effectively treated. Depressive disorders are among the most responsive to treatment.

It is, however, sadly true that 60 to 80 percent of people with depressive disorders never seek help. 11118 is especially unsettling because advances in treatment have made it possible for individuals who have suffered bouts of depression to lead normal lives and handle day-to-day responsibilities. Mental health professionals hope that people will become more aware of the help which is available.
