RCES PTA movie
The RCES PTA is sponsoring a Walt Disney family movie entitled Gus on Friday, April 3, at 7 p.m. Real horselaughs come when Gus, a mule who kicks field goals, joins the starting line-up of the California Atoms, a football team that can’t do anything right. It’s a winning grandstand event with a sports champ whose powers can’t be beat. Come out and join us in an evening of fim. We will have door prizes and tell you more about the upcoming fim fair. Admission is $1; not more than $6 per family.
Contestants sought
Young ladies between ages 12 and 18 are needed to compete for Sperryville’s honorary fire queen. Anyone interested should contact Joyce Lillard at 987-8952 after 5 p.m. for additional information. Carnival dates are set for June 16-20.
Baseball practice
T-Ball and Little League baseball practice will begin on Monday, April 6, at 6 p.m. at the Rappahannock County Elementary School fields. Practice will be held every Monday and Wednesday, weather permitting.

Lions Club auction
The Rappahannock Lions Club will sponsor a benefit auction on Saturday, April 25, starting at 6:30 p.m. at the Washington VFD building in Washington.

Basket class scheduled
Local fiber artist Janet Kerig will conduct a basketweaving at the Middle Street Gallery April 2, 9 and 16 from 7 to 9:30 p.m. The three-session class will be devoted to completing an Appalachian melon basket with a grapevine handle and natural dyed splints. ‘Song of the South’
The movie Song of the South will be playing at the Gay Street Theatre Saturday and Sunday, April 4 and 5, at 7:30 p.m. The movie stars Ruth Warrick, Bobby Driscoll, James Baskette, Lucille Watson, Hattie McDaniel and Luana Patten. There will be a matinee April 4 at 2 p.m., as well as the regular showing at 7:30. Admission is $3 for adults and $2 for children.
Landfill meeting
A meeting of concerned citizens against the proposed landfill on the Stover tract will be held Friday, April 3, at 7:30 p.m. at the Amissville fire house. Residents are urged to attend the meeting and sign the petition which will be presented to the Board of Supervisors at the public hearing April 8.
