Muzzleloader hunters have had one day of doe hunting for the past two years; now three days of antlerless hunting are recommended for the next two seasons.
Commissioners voted to split the bobwhite quail season.
West of 1-95, the quail season is proposed to begin on the first Monday in November and continue until . the first Saturday in February .

Spring gobbler dates were also established for the 1988 and 1989 seasons. These seasons will run from the second Saturday in April through the second Saturday in May.
The following counties will benefit from proposed increases in the number of either sex hunting days at the end of the season or from an increase in the number of deer allowed per season. Bedford, Pittsylvania, Powhatan and Prince George counties will have the number of either sex hunting days increased from three to six.
Additionally, Pittsylvania and Prince George counties may see the bag limit increased from two to three deer per year.
Brunswick, King George, Lancaster, Northumberland, Rappahannock, Richmond and Westmoreland counties will still have either sex hunting on the last 12 days of the season, but the bag limit was proposed to increase from two a year to three.
Fairystone Wildlife Management Area, Fairystone State Park and Philpott Reservoir would see bag limits increased from one per year to two a year with either sex hunting on the last day only. The bag limit in Mecklenberg and Halifax counties is proposed to increase from two a year to three a year.
The commission voted to decrease either sex hunting days from six to three in four counties — Hanover, Henrico, Louisa and Spotsylvania. The same decrease would apply to the G. Richard Thompson, Powhatan and White Oak Mountain Wildlife Management Areas.
Caroline County would decrease either sex hunting days from 12 to six. Chesterfield County and the Chester F. Phelps Wildlife Management Area would see a decrease in either sex hunting days from the last six days of the season to the last day only.
Other proposals included adjustments in various county deer and turkey seasons, elimination of the pelt tagging requirements for beaver, changes in some regulations
dealing with trap sizes and changes in trapping dates for aquatic furbearers (beaver, mink, muskrat and others).
All the proposed changes will be advertised by May 8, when the commission will hold another public hearing to adopt game regulations for the next two years.
