What does a bridal consultant do?
The list can be endless according to Margaret Boyd, full-time teacher and bridal consultant on the side.
Boyd, based in Reston, offers a mind-boggling array of services from menu planning to arranging the music to helping select the honeymoon wardrobe.
“Every situation with a wedding is different—every family is different,” Boyd says. “It’s the one day you see complete joy and happiness. That’s what weddings are all about. ”
Boyd says her first meeting with a family to discuss wedding plans focuses on budget, which she calls “the determining factor” in deciding the number of guests and the reception menu. Other considerations include music, flowers, and whether to use limousine service.
The typical wedding with about 150 guests could cost as much as $8,000 with all the trimmings, Boyd says. The trimmings include much more than major items, such as the bridal gown and the cake.
