“We’ve worked on this for six years,” Supervisor Charles Estes said of the Rappahannock board's continuing effort to persuade the Highway Department to finish the long-delayed widening of Rt. 211 between Washington and Sperryville. “We’re not going to stop now. This is our main highway artery, and we should take care of it.”
The issue of improvements to the primary road, the most heavily traveled in Rappahannock, arose Monday at the board’s hearing on the county’s six-year secondary road plan.
Chairman Hubert Gilkey pointed out that the advertised public hearing was not the proper forum for comment on primary road projects. That belongs at the Highway Department’s meeting April 11 in Culpeper, he noted. “But we 11 lake a few,” he told those who wanted to address plans for Rt. 211.
