Resident engineer Bob Moore brought news Monday that the supervisors wanted to hear.
When the two improvement projects now underway on Rt. 17 in Fauquier County are completed, the highway will be reopened to truck traffic, taking the big tractor-trailers off narrow Rt. 522 in Rappahannock.
“It looks like that will happen sometime near the end of this year, in the fall,” Mr. Moore said.
Because of several serious accidents involving tractor-trailers, Rt. 17 from Marshall to Warrenton was closed to the large trucks in November 1985. Due to the ban, truckers who used that route as the artery to connect with Rt. 29 are now plying Rt. 522 from Front Royal south through Rappahannock.
