Fowl costs at neighboring jails with kitchens run $2.70 in Warren County, $3 in Fauquier, $3.04 in Rage, and $2.90 to $3 in Culpeper.
“I've never eaten in the jail, and I hope I never will,” said Mr. Baumgardner, winning chuckles from the board members. “But I’ve always found the food at the Hampton Inn to be excellent, and I’ve been told by the management that I’ve eaten some of the same meals as prepared for the jail. ”
Supervisor Nelson Lane interjected that he’d eaten a “nice breakfast” at the restaurant since last month’s board meeting. “I’m here alive to testify to it.”
Prisoners have reportedly complained about getting cold food, Mr. Baumgardner continued. “The jail has a microwave oven. I suggest they use that to warm up the meals.’'
