A program on “Women in Service, Past and Present” was presented at the meeting of the Culpeper Minute Men Chapter, NSDAR, Jan. 12 at the Culpeper United Methodist Church. Speakers were Mrs. Dieter Knuepfer, a member of the chapter, and Commander Anne Josephine Armstrong Chelf, USN (ret.).
Mrs. Douglas Fairfax, Regent, presided at the meeting.
Based on a new committee recognizing women in military service, 300 service women were present at the 1986 Continental Congress and recognized by the President General. Two of the women served in WWI.
Mrs. Knuepfer elaborated on the part that such women as Florence Nightingale and Clara Barton played in earlier wars.
