A recent television report warned viewers of the “secret disease” — hospital acquired infections. Nationally, these infections vary from 5-10 percent of all hospital admissions.
At Culpeper Memorial Hospital, unusually low rates of 1 percent to 1.5 percent were found by the Joint Commission on Health Care Organizations during a recent visit to renew the hospital’s accreditation.
“These statistics show . we’re doing things righ,” said Dr. Harold Markham of Culpeper, the chairman of the CMH infection control committee.
“The rate of hospital acquired infections is one of the earmarks of quality care in a hospital. Our rate shows the hospital has good care practices and good quality control,” he said.
