The Virginia Commission for the Arts announces a March 1 application deadline for the following grants: Local Government Challenge Grants. Project Grants, Support for New and Emerging Arts Organizations, Artists-in-Education Residencies, Salary Assistance Grants and Dance Initiative. These awards are for the July 1, 1988, to June JO, 1989, fiscal year.

Local Government Challenge Grants are available to any Virginia city, county or town government to encourage financial support of the arts. The commission will match up to $5,000 of tax money given by the locality to arts organizations.

Project Grants support performances, exhibitions, readings, workshops, guest artists, conferences, commisssions of new works, advisory services and a wide variety of other activities which increase access and opportunity for high quality art.
