Commander Chelf served as a nurse in WW II, Korea, and Vietnam, giving aid to our veterans in hospitals. During her 26 years in the Navy she spent much of her time in the Portsmouth and San Diego hospitals.
A major point made by Mrs. Knuepfer was that while women in the military were vital to the war effort, the women on the home front also served as an equally major force.
