Virginia farmers are “disappointed” with the agricultural funding proposed by Gov. Gerald L. Baliles in his budget message, said Virginia Farm Bureau Federation President Robert B. Delano. He promised that the VFBF would continue to lobby for more money for agriculture from the 1988 General Assembly.
Mr. Delano said that the Governor’s proposal covered only “about 30 percent” of the $45 million agricultural wish list the Farm Bureau is seeking. Programs suggested by the VFBF include funding for strategic planning for farmers, agricultural biotechnology research, farmers’ market site construction, new initiatives to market and sell the state’s farm products domestically and abroad, and new equipment for the
