When one thinks of George Washington, several things come to mind. He was our country’s first president, for years his birthday was celebrated on Feb. 22, and, of course, George chopped down his father’s cherry tree. Washington’s birthday cannot come to mind without thoughts of cherries.
Cherries originated in Asia Minor as far back as 300 BC. Early settlers brought cherries across the Atlantic Ocean with them. By 1629. cherry trees were being cultivated in Massachusetts.
