Finally, as I heard her remarks, Laurie was in no way apologizing about anything American. She was rather using some visual material reflecting her personal life to symbolize the dark side of all mankind, all men (arid women, Laurie!), be they American, Soviet, Chinese, Afghan or Vietnamese.
If mankind is ever to control its tendency to war among its members, all of us must recognize the dark side of each of us that gets us into this ultimate kind of horror.
