There may be solutions to the pony-race dilemma. Children can race in Pennsylvania and Maryland where the Delaware Valley point-to-point circuit offers a host of pony races for children, including a unique jumping race for children under 16. But on the home front, a new release being worked up by Mr. Olson and Maryland attorney • Doug Worrall may be pony racing’s best hope this year, if race committees will accept it.
The indemnification agreement they are proposing would be an agreement signed by parents agreeing that should the child be hurt and sue the hunt and collect money from the hunt, then the parent will reimburse the hunt for all moneys that had to be paid to the child.
"What we are doing," Mr. Olson said, "is putting the parents on notice that it is an inherently dangerous sport and saying that if the child should be hurt, it was originally the parents who allowed the child to ride. It
