Spring is a rpagk time in Virginia.

No other state can claim the rich slate of spring steeplechase races which fill weekends from the end of February through May. Northern Virginia can claim no other sport which packs so many spectators and participants together, though they are far from any stadium.

Steeplechasing is conducted among the rolling hills and open country of the Piedmont and it is this unique setting that creates a sport so appealing for so many.

The fields, hills and fences provide a i challenge incomparable to flat track 1 racing.

But beyond racing, the country-fair atmosphere of a steeplechase meet is a delightful excuse for a picnic, a time for socializing and a time of fresh, spring air.

For the sportsmen, it is a time to prove their horses over hill and dale, timber or brush. It is also a time of comradeship when, after 13 weekends of sport, the horses become the heroes and
