Gilding the dream house
! Some builders will tell you that thjey can build a house in 90 to 120 d4ys but rarely, so very rarely, is a house really ready for occupancy 90 or even 120 days after groundbreaking. Even more rarely can a buyer do anything to speed up the process. Actual closing dates usually run one to six months, or iinore after the date in the contract.
If you are selling your old home while having another one built for you (which is usually the case), allow plenty of time beyond the paper closing date on the new property before closing on the old. You can calculate a rough estimate of how much extra time you’ll need by talking with people who have already had homes built by your builder.
The risk of setting too early a closing date on your old house is obvious. You’ll be forced to move out of it with nowhere to move into. Such a situation could intensify the emotional stress of a move and cost you a bundle in extra living and storage expenses.
