I am sure your readers had diverse reactions to Mr. Eastham’s letter in your last issue. He reacted negatively to the “talented young artist’s” (spelled Laurie Marshall) presentation at the potluck supper for our recent Soviet visitors. My own reaction was one of shock and puzzlement at the very different ways Mr. Eastham and I heard and understood the very same remarks.

I have had the good fortune to work with and get to know Laurie Marshall over the past many years. Mr. Eastham puts her remarks in a “leftist” context. Anyone who knows Laurie is aware of her peace-seeking and anti-war orientation. If that is a “leftist” stance, it includes a very •large number of U. S. citizens.
