ogetner tney survived tor a third in the ladies' timber race. Two weeks later they were first in the ladies race at Fairfax. "He did really good, even though 1 screwed up."

Colonel's Request, or "Blackie" as he's called around Miss Wilson's Purcellville farm, had his moment in the sun at Great Meadow when he won the International Gold Cup with jockey Colvin Ryan up.

"1 was really, really lucky this horse did so extraordinarily well. When it's 10 degrees outside and I don't want to go out and ride those horses, I keep in mind the way I felt when that horse won the International Gold Cup."

This year Miss Wilson hopes to have him back on the Great Meadow timber course, this time for the Virginia Gold Cup.

"He's only a six-year-old — that's awfully young. I'd like to see him do one point-to-point as a prep, the Gold Cup and then the Pennsylvania Hunt Cup. If he did that I'd be happy."
