To the editor:
During the past few weeks I have made a considerable effort to study the pros and cons of continuing the four-laning of U.S. Highway 211 to Sperry ville.
As a fiscal conservative I have come to the conclusion that spending $14 million on a five-mile stretch of roadway is an example of state and federal mismanagement of taxpayers' money. With millions of Americans concerned about our overwhelming federal deficit, I think it’s our responsibility to say “No!”
I also believe that the very legitimate safety concerns can be effectively addressed by lowering speed limits in some areas and by straightening the roadway in others and not by spending this enormous amount of taxpayers’ money. Personally, I have never experienced the so-called “bottleneck” and do not feel that “getting there faster” is enough justification for this project.
