Country Gentlemen in concert
The enduring, award-winning blue-grass quartet, the Country Gentlemen, will be coming to Rappahannock Saturday, April 29, for a concert at 7 p.m. at the Gay Street Theater in Washington. Tickets for this rare local appearance are available in advance from Picture This in Warrenton, the Village Cafe in Washington, Culpeper Music Center in Culpeper, Faith Mountain in Sperryville, Royal Oak Bookshop in Front Royal and the RAAC Office, P.O. Box 24, Washington, Va. 22747. Tickets are $7.50 in advance and $8.50 at the door.
Lions benefit auction planned
The Rappahannock Lions Club auction will be held Saturday, May 14, beginning at 10 a.m. at the Washington fire hall. Proceeds will go towards new scoreboards for the new gym at the high school. For more information call 987-8395.
Extended hours at Treasurer’s Office
County Treasurer Frances Foster has announced the Rappahannock Treasurer’s Office will have extended hours through April in order for residents to obtain their county stickers. Hours will be 8 a.m. to5p.m., Monday-Friday.
Old Dominion Hunt races
Old Dominion Hunt Point-toi-Point Races will be held on Saturday, April 9, at the Ben Venue Race Course off Route 211. Pair race is at 10 a.m. and the first race goes at 12:30 p.m. For additional information call (703) 327-6731.
‘Hoosiers’

The movie Hoosiers will be playing at the Gay Street Theatre at 7:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, April 9 and 10. Gene Hackman stars as Norman Dale, a former college basketball coach who is re-entering the profession in 1951 after a 10-year hitch in the Navy. The script provides an insightful portrayal of the rural Midwest’s obsession with high school sports. Director David Anspaugh provides a collection of unglamorous, down-home, atmospheric characters to make Hoosiers a convincing period drama.
Herbal healing workshop
Healing the Family is an indepth exploration of the six stages of healing in the Wise Woman Tradition. A complete home herbal medicine chest will be presented and discussed as well as hands on preparation of tinctures, salves, poultices and infusions. The workshop will be held Saturday, April 16, at Jordan River Farm, beginning at 9:30 a.m. and ending at 5 p.m. The fee is $50 or $80 per couple.
