Friends of animals meet
The Rappahannock Animal Society will have an organizational meeting this Friday, May 1 2, at 7:30 p.m. at the courthouse. "We have many exciting events planned for the benefit of animals," organizer Kimberly Novak said. "The more people who attend, the better our chances for success," added Trish Drake. Last chance to register
Under state law, registration for all elections ends one month before the date of the election. That means, according to Registrar Ruth Kilby, Saturday, May 1 3 is the last day for voters to register for the Republican gubernatorial primary on Tuesday, June 1 3. In addition to its regular hours, Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.rrh, the registrar's office will be open on Saturday, May 13 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. for last minute registrations. The registrar's office is located on the first floor of the county courthouse in Washington. Mrs. Kilby added that voters planning to vote by absentee ballot must apply in person for their ballot, unless prevented by serious illness or hospitalization. Recycling shed opens May 13
The Rappahannock Anti-Litter League and You (RALLY!) announced that the '^county's recycling shed at the landfill in Amissville will officially open this Saturday, May 1 3. According to litter and recycling coordinator Nina Stamer, RALLY plans an informal celebration of the occasion, from 9-11 a.m., with refreshments and balloons. The public is invited to attend, and bring along their aluminum and glass (separated into clear, amber and green) for recycling. Newspapers, Mrs. Stamer noted, should still be taken to the trailer behind the Amissville fire hall. The landfill is located at the end of Route 639, two miles east of Amissville off Route 211. The recycling shed is next to the public convenience area at the entrance to the facility. It will be open the same hours as the landfill (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday, 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.)
