Flea market to benefit FHFD
The Flint Hill Volunteer Fire Department’s second annual flea market is planned for Saturday, June 3, beginning at 10 a.m. at the fire grounds. All proceeds go to the fire department for operational expenses. Donations of new or usable items are needed. All donations are tax deductible. Items may be dropped off at the fire hall on May 27 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. or by contacting any fire company member. Play at Wakefield
Wakefield School in Huntly will present a play entitled “The Musical Comedy Murders of 1940” on Friday and Saturday, May 12 and 13 at 8 p.m. each evening. “This play is very funny and has something for everyone: comedy, suspense, romance and music,” said an organizer. Tickets will be available at the door.
Oldway seeks artisans
Oldway Crafts Village in Sperryville still has a few spaces available for the second annual Oldway Demonstrating Craft Festival on Memorial Day weekend, May 27-29. Last year’s attendance was 5,000, with 50 artists showing. Demonstrations are encouraged but not required. Interested artists should call the Oldway office, (703) 987-8474.
Country Gentlemen in concert
Bluegrass giants The Country Gentlemen will appear at the Gay Street Theater Friday, May 19 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are available at the RAAC outlets in advance of the performance. For information call the RAAC Arts Hotline (675-3073).
Classes at Gallery
Janet Kerig will teach a basketry workshop at Middle St. Gallery on Saturday, May 20. Registration is $48 per person, and includes materials for two baskets and a vine identification walk. Dr. Denise Horton will present a workshop, “Dreams and Diaries” at the Gallery on Sunday, May 21 from 2-7 p.m. It will include interpretation, analysis and use of dreams to further creativity, and students will use dreams as the basis for a piece of art or writing. 'Dance Alive' at Town Hall
Dance Alive (formerly Dance Free) will be co-sponsored by the Golden Key on Saturday, May 13 at 8 p.m. to midnight at the Town Hall in Washington.
