To the editor:
I was disappointed in your editorial “Call for Compromise,” in the May 4 edition of your paper. “Compromise” was presented as a oneway street.
You clearly believe that government should not have to meet the requirements imposed on individual citizens. I would point out that individuals have budgets too. Further, they have schedules. In their planning, they must incorporate time required for approval processes. Government should plan too.
Throughout the newspaper you have stated that the county government has its back to the wall relative meals, budget approval, etc., often quoting John McCarthy. The implication is that Mr. McCarthy did not adequately plan the application to the town government. I believe this is unfair to Mr. McCarthy, who probably understands the process and responsibilities of the Architectural Review Board as well as anyone. I cannot believe that Mr. McCarthy expects special privileges.
