As if the rain wasn't enough, the Panthers have also almost "thrown away” their chances for a berth in the four-team district playoffs. Rappahannock has been plagued by poor throws all season, but never more so than May 3 when they committed ten errors in a loss to the George Mason Mustangs, 14-10.
Offensively Rappahannock delighted Coach Gary Leake by getting ten hits out of 33 at-bats. On defense the Panthers would field the ball fine but the routine throw to first for the out often times ended up in the bleachers. “Eight of Mason’s 14 runs were unearned. They only had four hits the whole day, but every error we made cost a run,” Mr. Leake said after the game.
