In a final question, Mr. Wells suggested that the county reconsider the use of the building if continuing expansion of the jail would require additional space. “Continued use of this building is certainly desirable, but if the jail requirements continue to expand, you may determine that this building is more suited for county office use, or some other more sympathetic program.”

Mr. McCarthy said Tuesday afternoon that he expected that the space gained by the addition, which will include a kitchen, storage space and offices as well as additional cells, rill serve the county's needs, “into the 21st Century.”

The Architectural Review Board’s regular meeting will be on Thursday, May 18 at 8 p.m. at the courthouse. Pending receipt of the second consultant’s review, the board may again consider the county's plans for the addition at that meeting.
