Dressings for coleslaw vary as much as tossed salads. Perhaps the least popular dressing of all is the vinaigrette.

Whether smothered with a dressing blended of mayonnaise, sour cream, yogurt, or a combination of all three, the creamy dressing is the “all-American” favorite. Colorful dressings can be derived from the addition of a ripe mashed avocado or barbecue sauce mixed with mayonnaise, and an addition of sugar is often desired.

Seasonings for coleslaw vary with taste. Most people prefer salt, pepper, celery seeds, paprika, or caraway seeds. Other herbs and spices that go nicely with cabbage are ground cumin, curry powder.
