Two series of six week massage classes, a Women’s Massage Group and Partner s Massage Class will be offered beginning May 16 and 18 respectively. Washington Volunteer Fire Department will sponsor a Miss Fourth of July this year. Girls from the Hampton District between the ages of 13 and 18 are urged to call the fire department at 703/675-3615. “Leave your name and number on the machine and we will contact you with information,” said an organizer. Sperryville plans spring test
Memorial Day weekend. May 27 and 28, will again bring thousands of visitors to Sperryville for the village’s annual Spring Festival. From 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday there will be carriage and pony rides, music and other entertainment, crafters demonstrating their art, a petting zoo, and food from many vendors along the town’s Main Street. Children's festival at RCES
An Artwork Children’s Festival will be held on Saturday, May 13 from 12-4 p.m. at the Rappahannock County Elementary School in the gym. This exhibition will include student art with hands-on mini craft workshop for kids and growm-ups and an ice cream bar. “This would be a great treat for Mom on Mother’s Day,” said an organizer. The public is invited.
'A World Apart'
The movie A World Apart will be playing at the Gay Street Theater on Saturday and Sunday, May 13 and 14 at 8 p.m. each evening. The movie stars Barbara Hershey and David Suchet. Chris Menges, winner of two Academy Awards for Best Cinematographer makes his directorial debut with A World Apart. Cannes Best Actress Awardwinner Hershey stars in Menges’ uncompromising, based-on-fact drama about a South African family caught up in the brutal early struggle against apartheid. Set in 1963, this film is the powerful story of a wife and mother who is arrested for her anti-apartheid activities, leaving her troubled teenage daughter to cope, on her own, with the tumult. The movie is rated PG. Admission is $3 for adults and $2 for children.
