U Conservation deadline near
The county Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service announced that it will hold sign-ups for its conservation practices until June 16 for programs to be carried out this fall or next spring. Practices which may be eligible for cost-share assistance under the ASCS conservation guidelines include improvement of livestock watering facilities, improvement of permanent vegetative cover, sod waterways, planting forest trees and installation of animal waste disposal facilities. All requests must be approved by the county ASCS committee, and applicants should note that first priority for approval will be given to the proposals which would save the most soil. For more information about program eligibility, contact the Rappahannock County ASCS office, located on Gay St. in Washington, or call 675-3616.
RAAC seeks local talent The Rappahannock Association for the Arts and the Community (RAAC) will hold its annual Talent Show on Saturday, June 17 at the Gay St. Theatre. Tryouts will be held on Thursday, June 1 at 7 p.m. at the theatre. The tryouts will be combined with a workshop led by three professional performing artists, Sally Nash, Tom Espinola and Julie Portman, who will offer coaching and performance suggestions to those auditioning.
