take all the specialized courses. Such a student would have physical education, and then would be able to choose maybe one other elective.
Schol Board Chairman Beverly Massie asked if the schedule allows for a rest period for kindergarten students.
Dr. Gangel said there wouldn’t always be time for a rest period, but that some days now there was no rest time.
“I like that schedule,” former teacher and Piedmont District representative Dorothy Butler said.
Mr. Chesshir explained that the proposed schedule isn’t final. He said he expects to make further changes after the elementary school teachers review it.
The School Board adopted the budget recommendations made by Dr. Gangel Superintendent David Gangel with no discussion.
With eight percent raises for all employees the budget will be “very tight” Dr. Gangel said. “We will hold off discretionary spending,” he suggested.
In making the motion that the budget be approved as presented. Stonewall-Hawthorn member William Oliver said, “I haven’t heard any griping during this time.”
Also at the special meeting last Thursday, the board:
• approved the purchase of the twro storage sheds made by the high school building trades classes. They will be bought by the School Board for use at the elementary school. One will be put at the side of the. building and will be used to store the chairs used in the auditorium for meetings. The other will be placed in back of the building and will be used for storage of lawn mowTers and other miscellaneous equipment.
• approved changes to some of the walls at the elementary school
• following an executive session, accepted the resignations of Cathie Hanby as a special education teacher at the elementary school, Wendy Evans as a special education teacher at the high school, and Tim Falls as a bus driver. It approved the appointments of Candy Lamma as part-time elementary guidance counsellor and Vicky Petrosky as choral music teacher. It also authorized the superintendent to appoint a special education teacher without prior school board approval.
These actions leave four teaching positions, the assistant principal/athletic director at RCHS, a cafeteria position at RCES and two bus driver slots still open for the coming year.
