No commencement exercise
was held at the newly consolidated Rappahannock County Elementary School for seventh graders this year. In lieu of a graduation program, the students were given a trip to Luray Caverns and a picnic lunch. There were four seventh grade classes and two of them visited the Caverns on Wednesday and the remaining two on Friday of last week.
James Michael Cannon of Castleton was a member* of the 1969 graduating class of Randolph-Macon Academy, Front Royal. Commencement exercises for the 83 graduates was held June 1. He was Commander of the Color Guard and was active in varsity football, wrestling and spring track. James is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ray T. Cannon and will enter Ferrum College in the fall.

The “water quality meeting”
arranged by the Rappahannock League for Environmental Protection is set for 8 p.m., June 7, at the courthouse in Washington. Speakers will be Jack Lorenz and Chairman Pete Luke of the Board of Supervisors. Lorenz is information director of the Izaak Walton League of America and the title of his talk is “Save Our Streams - Adopt One.” Luke will discuss the latest proposals for cleaning up the Thornton River at Sperryville.
