Thirty-five wineries will showcase a bountiful selection of awardwinning wines at “Vintage Virginia ‘891!” - the Eighth Annual Virginia Wineries Festival - taking place June 3 and 4 from 11 a. m. to 6 p.m.
The festival is a unique opportunity to sample most of the wines made in Virginia, including vintages that have won awards in national competitions.
Attendance at last year’s festival was triple that of 1987, and the 1989 festival is designed to accommodate an even larger crowd. It features more wineries, food, entertainment and other activities than ever before.
The festival is held at the Northern Virginia 4-H Center outside Front Royal in the beautiful foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. The price of admission includes a commemorative wine glass (for everyone over 21); wine appreciation seminars; reggae, blues and jazz; hiking; swimming; picnicking and special children’s entertainment. In addition, there will be 50 arts and crafts vendors and plenty of mouthwatering food from around the state.
Tickets can be purchased for $8 in advance by calling (800) 658-8830. They are $10 at the gate. A portion of the festival proceeds will be donated to Camp Fantastic, a summer camp for children with cancer held annually at the 4-H Center.
