With warm weather come more visitors to the county, and consequently more traffic accidents. Fortunately, none of the accidents reported during the past several weeks have resulted in serious injuries.
DUI charge lodged
Edward Wayne Corbin, 36, of Sperryville, was charged with a second offense of driving under the influence after a single-vehicle accident on Sunday, May 28.
Trooper Keen said Mr. Corbin was northbound on Route 522 about 9:20 p.m., approximately one-half mile south of the intersection of Route 231. His 1976 Chevrolet Nova ran off the right side of the road, down an embankment and into a tree.
Mr. Corbin suffered minor scrapes in the accident. Fire and rescue personnel from the Sperryville Volunteer Fire Department and the Sperryville Rescue Squad responded to the accident.
Trooper Keen charged Mr. Corbin with driving under the influence, second offense within five years. He estimated that the car was a total loss.
Driver error at fault
Trooper S.M. Knick charged a Front Royal man with failure to keep to the right of the road following an accident on May 17.
According to Trooper Knick, Rickey Allen Long, 29, was eastbound on Route 647 about 3 1/2 miles east of Route 522. He entered a turn on the wrong side of the center line, the trooper said, skidded and struck a 1981 Honda driven by George Graham Hume, 82, of Washington, D.C., head-on.
Mr. Hume was taken to Warren Memorial Hospital by Washington’s Advanced Life Support unit, where he was held overnight for observation. He suffered facial lacerations, Trooper Knick said.
Mr. Long was not injured in the accident.
