Farmers participating in the 1989 acreage reduction programs may be eligible to receive an additional 10 percent of their projected deficiency payments for wheat and feed grains, according to ASC'S official Linda Henry. The extra federal assistance is authorized by USDA to help last year's drought-stricken farmers.
This brings the total advance payments up to 50 percent for wheat and feed grains, according to Ms. Henry, who is the executive director of the Rappahannock County ASCS committee.
Under the 1989 farm programs, wheat and feed grain producers were allowed to request 40 percent of their projected deficiency payments at signup. The programs closed April 14. The additional advance deficiency payments will be issued in commodity certificates in May.
Only those producers who requested advance payments under the 1989 programs are eligible for the additional 10 percent in advance deficiency payments.
