As the race for the Republican gubernatorial nomination intensifies, Stan Parris is portraying himself as the alternative to frontrunners Marshall Coleman and Paul Trible. Congressman Parris, a parochial politician, realizes he must extend beyond his Northern Virginia regional base.

I am from Northern Virginia. But I am not supporting Stan Parris for Governor. I don't believe Stan Parris is the conservative Republican Virginians need and expect as their Governor.

In 19S2, when President Reagan on three separate occasions vetoed deficit-spending legislation passed by the Democratic Congress, Stan Parris voted each time to override Reagan's veto.
